About MÍO

MÍO has been recognised as one of the Norwegian underground's biggest live experiences. With their energetic and entrancing shows, and a front vocalist that seizes the listener and refuses to let go – MÍO has convinced audiences on stages and festivals throughout the country! One of Norway’s most exciting up-and-coming bands, and a must-see live-band!

“A true newcomer, the Oslo-based sextet had only a few weeks earlier released its debut album, but took to the stage like they had never done anything else. Their bold mixture of elements ranging from Norwegian folk to punk, progressive rock and even jazz sounded utterly fresh and original, and the powerful vocals and total physical abandon of singer Dionisia Fjelldalen was rewarded by very active participation from the audience. Top recommendation!” Tina Solda, Stalker Magazine.

The band has created a unique take on folk rock - which they themselves like to call "Folk 'n' Roll". A rich inspiration from Norwegian folk music, 70s prog and Norwegian rock and punk gives MÍO room to experiment. A fuzzed up fiddle is combined with poweful and varied vocals and a large arsenal of folk instruments, a jazz inspired rhythm section, melodic bass and expressive guitar. The music is catchy and hard hitting, while still keeping a balance between the dynamic and sensitive sides. All this makes up MÍO's fresh and innovative folk rock universe.

The Oslo-based band was founded by vocalist Dionisia Fjelldalen and bassist Marianne Friisberg Larssen in 2019. The band debuted with the album "Ingen tid å miste" in the summer of 2023 to great acclaim and positive reviews. The debut album was followed by a longer tour where they visited several venues throughout the country and played at festivals such as Midgardsblot and Telemarkfestivalen. But this is only the beginning, and we can expect new adventures from the band's musical universe in 2024.

  • "Genre is not that important - as long as it's done with heart and sounds good. MÍO fully meets these criteria. MÍO shelters an important heritage and carries it forward into our time. Important and fierce.” Tor Hammerø, Nettavisen.

  • Once in a while, in this line of work, you stumble upon something that makes you stop dead in your tracks and ask “have I heard anything like this before?” And if you take a moment to think and realize “no, I don’t think I have?” (…) And this, is exactly how I feel bringing a review of the debut album from MÍO. With Mio, both the folk, prog rock, and jazz worlds are given something just genuinely awesome in Ingen tid å miste, and I for one can not wait to see where this band goes in the future.“ – Jameson Foster, Nordic Sound Channel.
